Build a home-network baseline before the next outage
Most home-network problems begin with a guess. You remember that the call worked yesterday, the upstairs Wi-Fi seemed better last month, or the router lights looked different—but there is no dated record to compare.
The free Home Network Baseline and Recovery Pack helps you create that record while the network is working. In about 30 minutes, you can identify the important equipment and tasks, map the useful connection paths, and preserve the information you will need when something changes.
What is inside
- A guided 30-minute household network baseline.
- Equipment, device, room, and connection-path worksheets.
- A troubleshooting map that begins with how much is affected.
- Four playbooks for common household symptoms.
- A controlled-change worksheet that makes you plan the way back first.
- An ISP/support-ready incident record and copyable support request.
- A one-page household recovery card.
What this gives you
The pack will not promise perfect Wi-Fi or diagnose every fault. It gives you a better starting point: what normally worked, what changed, what still works, which part of the path is affected, and what you can safely compare next.
It also makes an important distinction that is easy to miss during an outage: a Wi-Fi symbol does not prove internet access, and one unavailable service does not prove the whole network is down.
Keep the record private
The worksheets may contain details about household devices, rooms, routines, and support arrangements. Keep the completed pack private. Record where passwords, recovery codes, account records, and configuration backups are stored; do not write the secrets themselves into a copy that may be shared.

The pack and the book
This pack is not an excerpt. It is an original companion resource based on practical methods addressed in Home Networking for Real People, part of the Smart Tech for Real People series. The pack is complete and useful on its own.

A few practical boundaries
- This is a household record and decision aid, not a guarantee of speed, coverage, security, diagnosis, or repair.
- Stop for damaged power equipment, unusual heat, smoke, liquid, exposed wiring, or exposed or damaged fibre.
- Do not reset or change employer-, landlord-, building-, or provider-managed equipment without authority.
- Protect medical, alarm, accessibility, work, and emergency-communication fallbacks before experimenting.
- Use current instructions for the exact equipment model before firmware, reset, recovery, security, or operating-mode changes.
